Bhubaneswar, Nov O4: The three-day long impasse in Orissa Assembly over the alleged rape and murder of a school girl ended today with Speaker Sarat Kumar Kar asking the government to order a fresh inquiry into the incident. The opposition congress had walked-out of the house yesterday and sat on dharna outside demanding a judicial or a CBI inquiry into the allegation.
Kar, who held a long discussion with leaders of different parties and senior members, said he was directing the government to inquire into the allegation once again through any of its agencies and if any shred of evidence was found, the matter should be handed over to CBI.
The government, he said, had taken a stand that it could not order a judicial or CBI inquiry into the allegation without having any evidence in the matter.
The Congress members, including the two whom the speaker had named yesterday for unruly behaviour, returned to the house following a request by the chair.
The girl, as alleged in a local newspaper, had been raped by some senior students and later pushed down from a roof leading to her death recently.
The girl's parents, however, had denied that any such incident had taken place. They claimed that she had died following illness.
