London: Tamara Ecclestone has spoken out about how upset she was when she was blackmailed by her former boyfriend Derek Rose, adding that the whole incident was disgusting.
The Formula 1 heiress’ ex was jailed for four years at the end of February for trying to blackmail her to the sum of 200,000 pounds and she’s been speaking about what she went through during the ordeal.
“I felt disgusted. I felt like this person had already sold a story, made money, caused me and my family so much stress and so much anxiety,” the Mirror quoted her as saying on Daybreak on Monday.
Rose dated the socialite way back in 2002, when she was just 17 and the relationship ended badly.
He sold a story on her but then in 2011 he sent an email suggesting he’d been offered 200,000 pounds to sell another story to the press.
During his trial at Southwark Crown Court it was discovered that no newspaper of organisation had offered him any money and the email was a plot to blackmail Ecclestone and her family.
But Ecclestone refused to give in to his demands and even waived her anonymity during the trial.
She said that the whole process of going to court and giving evidence was so difficult because she knew she’d have to see him. She was really nervous.
Having to see him was bringing back horrendous memories to her.
But when the news came [of his conviction] she just felt relieved.
She insisted that she never had any doubts over paying Rose off to keep him from revealing any embarrassing details about their fling.
“It wasn’t how much money he demanded, he could have demanded 5 pounds and a packet of crisps, I never would have paid him - I won’t be held to ransom. I think he is a bully, I think he is a disgusting human being and I would absolutely always stand up for what is right,” she added.
