London: Gwyneth Paltrow’s New Year diet kit has been panned by doctors and fans alike, with some even calling it a ‘300-pound laxative’.
Users of the diet said that the ‘Clean kit’, a three-week detox programme of fibre, pills and oils, has them running to the loo a number of times.
Doctors and dieticians have branded it a ‘useless waste of time and money’ that could even make people fatter.
Paltrow revealed on her health website Goop that the regime makes her “lose pounds and kickstart a healthier and more energetic New Year”, the Daily Star reported.
Made by her Uruguayan diet guru Dr Alejandro Junger, it replaces ordinary meals with shakes and tablets.
However, furious users of the diet have slammed it on various web forums. One blogger on US site D-listed renamed Gwyneth’s Goop website Poop.
“The cleanse is all about f***ing your asshole raw and sh*tting out your insides while completely screwing over your checking account,” one of the users said.
According to Hollywood Life, one doctor said that the low calorie detox could make the body retain fat as a natural reaction to fasting.
“The whole idea of detox is nonsense… The body is a well-developed system that has its own built-in mechanisms to detoxify and remove waste,” Dr Frankie Phillips, from the British Dietetic Association was quoted as saying.
