Shillong, July 16: Meghalaya government has decided to set up a women's commission in the state in line with the National Women's Commission act. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister D D Lapang here yesterday. The commission will be in line with the National Women's Commission Act 1990. We have asked the state's Social Welfare department to select its personnel and terms of reference, the Chief Minister said after the meeting. Lapang said that the Cabinet also decided to defer the elections to municipal boards in the state as there was a disagreement on the issue. Bureau Report.
