New Delhi: OPPO which seeks to bring "the most extraordinary mobile experience through meticulous designs and smart technology" has become the most selling smartphone worldwide, as per the Gartner sales report for the first quarter of 2016.

Oppo was the most selling smartphone and sales grew whopping 145 percent showing great performance in China and other emerging markets of Asia-Pacific. 

The world lapped up 349 million units of smartphone in the first quarter of 2016, signaling a 3.9% growth over same period in 2015.

The Garter report, which was released Thursday said that the smartphone sales accounted for 78 percent of all the mobile phone sold.                                                                   

The sales were pushed by the budget smartphone sales particularly in emerging markets. The 4G connectivity also added to the total global sales in the smartphone category, added the report.

Huawei, Xiaomi also gave a tough competition to Lenovo and Samsung in China. Huawei witnessed great demand in Europe, America and Africa, while Samsung maintained 23 percent market share with Samsung’s Galaxy S7 series phones casting tough pressure on the local competitors. 

The phones that are seeing lowdown on sales due to newer launches are Apple and Lenovo phones. Apple had its first double-digit decline with iPhone sales going down over 14 percent year on year.

Lenovo saw Q1 sales declining 33 percent, and is no longer among the top five smartphone vendor ranking and has also got edged out of the top 10 mobile phone vendor in Q1, 2016. 

Gartner report tables Android at the top amon the the OS with 84 percent market share, while iOS kept nearly 15 percent share.

Microsoft's Windows declined to 0.7 percent from 2.7 per cent in the same quarter last year. BlackBerry and other operating systems held marginal 0.2 percent share.
