New Delhi: Whichever way the Supreme Court swings in its verdict in the call drop case, it is the user who is going to win. The Supreme Court will resume the hearing on the slugfest between trai and telecos on call drop compensation case on Wednesday.

Considering that the call drops issue is a serious matter, even raised by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a couple of forums, the telecos are not going be absolved of the responsibility to offer quality service.

Even if the court gives them a relief from the regulation which mandates them to pay Rs 1 as compensation, they are not going to get away from the responsibly of creating sufficient infrastructure.

The telecom regulator had told the Supreme Court last week that a "cartel" of 4-5 telecom firms having a billion subscribers are making Rs 250 crore a day but not making investments on their network to improve services to check call drops.

The telecos on the other hand are claiming that only more and affordable spectrum can resolve the problem of call drops.

The Supreme Court is hearing telecos appeal against the Delhi high court judgment which had upheld the regulation asking them to compensate consumers, at the rate of Rs 1 for three call drops, from January 1.
