New Delhi: In one of the most shocking revelations, a former employee of the social networking site, Facebook, has revealed that the company's CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg took a vow to destroy Google Plus when it was launched in 2011.

Antonio Garcia Martinez, a former Facebook employee, in his upcoming book called “Chaos Monkeys: Obscene Fortune and Random Failure in Silicon Valley” reveals that the launch of Google Plus hit Zuckerberg like a bomb.

“Zuck took it as an existential threat comparable to the Soviets’ placing nukes in Cuba in 1962,” Martinez writes in the book.

According to Martinez, Zuckerberg could not think of anything else on the launch of Google Plus but to destroy it. So, he declared a ‘lockdown', Martinez says.

“Lockdown is a state of war that dated to Facebook’s earliest days, when no one could leave the building while the company confronted some threat, either competitive or technical,” Martinez explains in the book.

Zuckerberg reportedly delivered his first ‘lockdown speech’ on the day Google Plus was launched.

Martinez quotes Zuckerberg as saying, “You know, one of my favorite Roman orators ended every speech with the phrase Carthago delenda est. ‘Carthage must be destroyed.’ For some reason I think of that now.”
