Tirupati, Nov 20: President A P J Abdul Kalam arrived this morning at the Renigunta Airport on a day's visit to this temple town. Kalam, who arrived by a special aircraft from New Delhi, was received by Governor Surjeet Singh Barnala and caretaker Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, among others.

The country's first citizen, accompanied by the governor and the Chief Minister, drove straight to the Tarakarama Stadium for inaugurating the golden jubilee celebrations of the Sri Venkateswara University. The President was also slated to inaugurate the three-day 78th annual meet of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) here.

Police had made the tightest-ever security at the airport and enroute to Tirupati in view of the President's visit. Earlier, Barnala arrived at the airport by a helicopter from Hyderabad and Naidu came from Guntur, where he kicked off his election campaign yesterday.
