Mumbai: Vidyut Jamwal is playing the title role in ‘Commando’, but actress Pooja Chopra says her character is equally important and it`s central to the story.
"In the film, there is a fight between the girl and the villain. The girl is the central character. `Commando` is the girl`s story. It never came to me that I am getting a lesser role," Pooja told IANS in an interview.
She regards the film as her first movie and says earlier work helped her decide whether she want to be an actress or not.
"For me, that was a grand rehearsal. I wanted to see if I am cut out for acting or not? I wanted to see if I enjoy it or not," she said.
A former Miss India, Pooja wanted to be a restaurateur, but her mom wanted her to pursue acting.
"It was not a plan; neither did I get offers when I was modelling. After Miss India, I wanted to open a restaurant for my mother. But she wanted me to be an actor. And that`s how it happened," she said.
Working in Vipul Amrutlal Shah`s production venture "Commando" was "a lot of fun and learning" for her.
"Commando was an experience… milestone in my career. I discovered myself in a lot of ways and learned so much of acting. I have done acting courses, but my lessons came from what Vipul Shah taught me on the set," she said.
Directed by Dilip Ghosh, ‘Commando’ will release April 12.
Having played a multi-layered character in the film, she does not want to stick to any one genre in the future.
"In `Commando`, I play a fun loving Punjabi girl," she said and added that her character is "brave and romantic… I have tried five different shades of acting; I enjoyed all of them a lot".
"So right now there is no particular genre which I am looking forward to. It depends on the script and the director," she added.
Her next film will be announced soon and Pooja added it is with the same production house.
