New Delhi, July 29: The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Cauvery Water Monitoring Committee to meet by August 12 and give within one week its recommendations on the present dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu on sharing of the river water. A three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice B N Kirpal, Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice Arijit Pasayat asked the committee to give its recommendations to the Cauvery River Authority, headed by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, within seven days of its meeting.

The bench requested the Cauvery River Authority, of which the Chief Ministers of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are members, to meet soon after receiving the recommendations of the monitoring committee.

The order was passed by the bench on an application moved by Tamil Nadu alleging that Karnataka has released only seven TMC feet of water in June and July as against its share of 52 TMC feet severely damaging crops in the state. Bureau Report
