Mumbai: Krsna, known for his composition in ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ and forthcoming movie ‘Jolly LLB’, feels that songs in films are part of storytelling.
"I have a design and communication background and I understand that even songs in a movie are a part of the storytelling. They breathe life into a film," Krsna told reporters.
"As a composer, I do it from scratch and see what a director needs, how characters are evolving and then make a collection of four-five songs... I get inside the whole story, understand the scenes and then give the music," he added.
Each film`s song and music requirements are different and the composer says his endeavour is to follow the director`s thought process and gel well with the film`s mood.
"Every director is different and has a different desire for music. And I concentrate on delivering in the same zone. The music for a feature film will always evolve from the movie and this is something, which I have not tried to change," he said.
What about having a signature style?
"I don`t know if I have a style because I am very evolving. If anyone had heard my music before `Tanu Weds Manu`, no one would have even thought that I could come up with a semi-classical composition (`Piya`) for the film," he said.
With so much competition in the field, Krsna feels having a good foundation keeps you afloat.
"All producers and directors have opened up to new talent. So it is hard, but if your foundation is strong, then you cut through. If you have spent years doing `riyaaz`, then you are able to do better. Competition will be there, but if you come without learning, you will get stuck somewhere," he said.
After having an upbringing in music, music comes easily to Krsna.
"Music is the only thing where I don`t have to make an effort for. The more the challenges, the more I gear up. From childhood I have grown up with all kind of music. So that has registered in my mind and I know what kind of music should sound like what," he said.
