London: Gerard Butler has rubbished reports that alcoholism made him check into a rehab, saying that the rumours really “p**sed him off.”
The 42-year-old actor checked into the Betty Ford Centre in February for three weeks after being injured in a surfing accident.
The ‘300’ star said that he hasn’t “had a drink in 15 years.”
“Maybe a stronger person wouldn’t have needed to go. When you hear the word rehab, you think, ‘He’s a mess, he’s f***** up.’ But I’m glad I did it,” the Daily Mail quoted him as telling Men’s Journal.
“I’ve made an s***load of wrong decisions in my life. But I know I’ve made some right ones as well,” he said.
Butler - who admits to having an addictive personality - checked into a pain-management program after being nearly killed in a surfing accident while shooting drama ‘Chasing Mavericks.’
“I was actually taking a minimal amount of pills when I went in,” he said.
“It was more about becoming a mental warrior and not letting pain bother you.
“The instructor would say, ‘I don’t want to hear about your f***ing MRIs or your f**king X-rays... Let’s learn how to say to the pain, ‘F*** you’,’” he said
During the accident, Butler - who was pushed underwater by a wave for almost a minute - claimed he had “visceral” flashbacks and his mind ended up in a place where he “didn’t want it to be.”
“They really do rip you apart,” he said.
“You get rid of a bunch of s***, realise a bunch more s***, and you make a plan,” he added.
