Gaursons faces residents' heat for Noida township

Noida: After Amrapali, real estate firm Gaursons is now facing protest from residents of its township project here over maintenance-related issues.

In a meeting held yesterday with Gaursons MD Manoj Gaur, residents of a society in the 'Gaur City' township complained about the maintenance of the project and demanded setting up of Residents Welfare Association (RWA).

Residents alleged that Manoj Gaur threatened to "silence" them when they were raising slogans during their protest.

When contacted, Gaur said: "It was not a big issue or big incident. Two-three people were misbehaving. I only told them to behave in a proper manner."

"I went to meet the residents and address their issues but 2-3 people were misbehaving," said Gaur, who is also President of CREDAI-NCR.

The real estate sector is facing a huge slowdown for last 3-4 years, leading to huge delays of up to 7-8 years in delivery of the projects. The delay in handover of the flats has forced home buyers to launch protest against builders on streets as well as social media.

Realty firm Amrapali has been witnessing residents protest since last two weeks in one of its project Saphhire in Noida over pending civil and electrical works in the project.

Last week, Indian cricket team captain M S Dhoni resigned as brand ambassador of Amrapali, following social media campaign launched by the unhappy residents asking cricketer to dis-associate himself from the builder.

The Gaurson MD said the company has given possession to more than 8,000 buyers in the township and 5,000 are already residing. He said the company has provided various facilities in the project including a cricket stadium and temple.

The company is currently developing a 240-acre township 'Gaur City' in Noida Extension in partnership with another realty firm Saviour. About 25,000 housing units are being developed in this township at an investment of about Rs 5,000 crore.
