Whatmore sets modest targets for Bangladesh
Australia, July 07: Bangladesh coach Dav Whatmore says results are of secondary importance to improved individual performances in the Test series against Australia.
Australia, July 07: Bangladesh coach Dav Whatmore says results are of secondary importance to improved individual performances in the Test series against Australia.
The tourists have lost 18 of their 19 Tests since being granted full member status of the International Cricket Council. And two more heavy defeats are on the cards in Darwin and Cairns - the first Tests to be played in the northern Australian cities.
"We, as a team, have agreed that we are not going to judge success or otherwise by wins and losses on this tour. It`s individual improvement that players need to focus on. That will be done very carefully," said Whatmore, who replaced Mohsin Kamal as coach after giving up a similar job with Sri Lanka. Bangladesh beat the Australian Cricket Academy by two wickets in Brisbane on Saturday - a result Whatmore described as "a good tonic".
They now take on a Northern Territory Chief Minister`s XI in a four-day game on Thursday, their final warm-up before the first Test.
Despite their problems, captain Khaled Mahmud insists the team are in a positive mood and looking forward to taking on Australia.
