Heavy rains predicted in Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur; schools closed
Parts of interior and south Tamil Nadu may receive isolated rainfall, the Met officials said.
CHENNAI: Schools in Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts of Tamil Nadu will remain closed as heavy rains are likely to continue on Monday.
The three cities have witnessed a heavy rainfall on Sunday, forcing the authorities to order the closure of schools until Monday.
According to ANI, the Indian Meteorological the department has forecast ''heavy to very heavy'' rainfall in the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu due to a low pressure in the Bay of Bengal.
Parts of interior and south Tamil Nadu may receive isolated rainfall, the Met officials said.
For the next 48 hours, the sky condition is likely to be overcast. A few spells of rain or thundershowers are likely to occur. The maximum and minimum temperature is likely to be around 28 and 24 degree Celsius respectively, it said.
In the last 21 hours starting 8.30 am on Sunday, Chennai's Nungambakkam observatory has recorded 6.6 cm of rain.
Schools in Chennai and a few other coastal districts of Tamil Nadu reopened last Tuesday after a week's rain holidays.
Meanwhile, Chennai Municipal Corporation's control room will remain functional throughout the north-east monsoon period.
It's helpline 1913 received three complaints on Sunday.
