New Delhi: Believe it or not but there are news reports circulating that an Indian businessman has surrendered a sum of, hold your breath!, Rs 6,000 crore and all in cash.
So, who is this businessman?
According to reports, the businessman is Laljibhai Patel, a Surat-based diamond merchant and he had surrendered a sum of Rs 6000 crore, in cash, to the government.
Interestingly, this act of the businessman comes after the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 note by the government on November 11.
However, the interesting thing is, Patel is known for his charitable and philanthropy works including the Rs 200 crore donation that he made for the purpose of girl child education earlier this year.
He is also known to have gifted his employees cars, flats, etc on the occasion of Diwali (However, he is not to be confused with the Surat Diamond merchant who also showered his employees with such gifts during Diwali).
Having said that, none of the reports could really confirm what was the reason behind the surrender. However, let's hope that the government makes good use of the money - for charity as Laljibhai Patel would have or even intended.
