Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, a delivery boy of an e-commerce major was murdered by a customer who had ordered a Chinese phone but didn't have enough money to pay for the purchase, as per a report published in Times of India.
According to report, the 29-year old Nanjunda Swamy, a Flipkart delivery boy, was allegedly killed by 22-year old K Varun Kumar who could not pay Rs 11,999 for order of Redmi Note 3.
He had ordered the phone on December 8.
The dead body was recovered from shaft a building in Vijayanagar where delivery of phone was scheduled.
As per police officials, Varun hatched the plot to kill him knowing it's the only way left to catch hold of the phone.
Reacting to the incident, the e-commerce firm said it was deeply anguished by the loss.
"We are deeply anguished by the loss of one of our delivery associates and are focused at the moment on extending all possible support to his family to help them cope with this tragedy", Flipkar said in a statement.
"The Flipkart group values the safety and security of its staff above all else and makes no compromises in this regard. Our workplaces and premises are closely and continuously monitored in order to prevent any risk to their safety. In view of this disturbing incident, we have initiated a review and will strengthen our on-field safety measures," the firm added.
