New Delhi: Records tumbled on Saturday as Delhi batsmen Rishabh Pant became the second wicket-keeper batsman to slam triple-century in first-class cricket. Playing against Maharashtra in a Group B match of the ongoing Ranji Season, Pant achieved the historic feat at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

The 19-year-old, who hails from Delhi, scored 308 runs from 326 balls before being stumped by Vishant More. Rishabh slammed 42 fours and 8 sixes during his phenomenal innings.

Lokesh Rahul from Karnataka, is the record holder for hitting first triple-century by a wicket-keeper batsman in first-class cricket. Rahul slammed 337 runs from 448 balls against Uttar Pradesh on Januray 29th, 2015.

For Delhi, this is the second highest individual score after Raman Lamba's 312-run knock against Himachal Pradesh in 1994.

Globally, Pant became the seventh wicket-keeper in first-class cricket to have a triple century under his belt.

Pant was involved in a seventh-wicket partnership of 182 runs with Varun Sood, where he scored 147 of those runs, while Sood scored 25, while 10 runs came off extras.

Earlier in the same match, duo of Swapnil Gugale and Ankit Bawne posted an unbroken 594-run stand for the third wicket which became the highest partnership for any wicket, in India's First-Class cricket. The previous record belonged to legends Vijay Hazare and Gul Mohammad, who compiled 577 runs for the fourth wicket for Baroda against Holkar way back in 1946/47 season.

The previous highest stand for the third wicket was by Sagar Jogiyani and Ravindra Jadeja. The Saurashtra duo posted 539 runs against Gujarat in the 2012/13 season.

Harsha Bhogle and Aakash Chopra praised Pant for this feat on social micro-blogging site.

They tweeted:

Ranji Trophy is the premier first-class cricket championship played in India.
