While the saga over Mithali Raj’s controversial omission from the World T20 semi-final clash continues, here is the look at statistics as well as some of the international records held by the former Indian women's team skipper.
Mithali might have been benched during the last-four clash against England in the recently-concluded World T20 in West Indies, but she became the highest scorer in the shortest format of the game. Besides becoming the batter with most T20I runs in the women's cricket, the 35-year-old (2,283 runs from 85 T20I) also broke the records of her male counterparts namely swashbuckling opener Rohit Sharma (2,237 runs from 90 matches ) and skipper Virat Kohli (2,167 runs from 65 matches) to become the highest Indian run-getter overall.
Meanwhile, Mithali's two back-to-back half centuries of 56 and 51 against Pakistan and Ireland, respectively, not only helped her side book its place in the semi-finals of the World T20 but also made her one of just two batswomen-- the other being Australia's Alyssa Healy--to notch two fifties in the 2018 edition of the tournament.
The former Indian skipper, who made her international debut in 1999 against Ireland in ODIs, has appeared in 10 Tests so far, scoring a total of 663 runs laced with one century and four half-centuries.
She has also played 197 ODI matches and amassed 6,550 runs, including seven centuries and 51 fifties, at an average of 51.17.
Like T20I, Mithali is also the highest run-getter in the 50-over format of the game. She is also the first women cricketer to have scored more than 6,000 runs and has most fifties in the women's ODIs and most centuries by an Indian batswomen in this format of the game.
Mithali, who is also the fastest Indian women cricketer to cross 1,000-run mark in T20Is, also holds the record of most half-centuries for India as well most consecutive fifties in the shortest format of the game.
Despite Mithali's good records, she was dropped for the World T20 semi-final against England that raised quite a few eyebrows after India's eight-wicket loss.
