India beat New Zealand in the semi-finals of the ICC Under 19 Womens T20 World Cup 2023 to book their place in the final of the tournament on Friday, January 27, at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom. Batting first, New Zealand could manage only 107/9 in 20 overs. India chased down the target with 8 wickets in hand and more than five overs remaining. Parshavi Chopra took 3 wickets in her four overs that also included one maiden after India won the toss and opted to field first. Shafali Verma was a happy captain as her team responded to her call. Titas Sadhu, Mannat Kashyap, Shafali and Archana Devi finished with a wicket each.

Shafali got out early in the chase of 108 runs but in-form Shweta Sehrawat smashed a brilliant fifty and took the team to the win. India will now play the final with either England or Australia on January 29, Sunday.

Shweta has been in top form for India, making 292 runs in 6 matches so far. She is averaging 146 in the tournament and her strike rate if 141.06. She has hit 49 boundaries while she has also smashed 2 sixes.

Shweta will be crucial for India's chances in the final where they can meet two quality teams, England or Australia.

Team India have played this tournament exceptionally well as Shafali Verma has led the side with plan and precision. The experience of playing in this World Cup will come in handy for two players who will also be playing the Women's T20 World Cup starting next month. They are Shafali Verma and Richa Ghosh. Both have been tremendous form in the World Cup and would love to carry the form to the next big-ticket tournament which will also take place in South Africa.
