The 11th edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023 will get underway on Thursday (India time) with a clash between Jamaica Tallawahs and St Lucia Kings at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet. The Tallawahs will look to defend their title which they won in 2022 with a win over Barbados Royals in the final.
The CPL 2023 season will be played in five countries: St Lucia, St Kitts, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, and Guyana. Each country will get six league matches spread across four match days. Guyana will additionally host the Playoff leg as well.
The champions have a strong side featuring the likes of Brandon King – who smashed a match-winning fifty in the fifth T20I against India last week – recently-retired Alex Hales, Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim and Fabian Allen.
The CPL 2023 will also see the debut of former India and Chennai Super Kings batter Ambati Rayudu, who will become only the second Indian to play in this league after Pravin Tambe as he turns out for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Former West Indies teammates Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard will team up for Trinibago Knight Riders, owned by Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan.
