New Delhi: Soon after the inquest into the tragic death of Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes concluded, Cricket Australia reportedly paid the family of Phillip Hughes a sum upto $ 4 Million in damages over the batsman's death as per the West Australian.

Concluding the inquest, NSW Coroner Michael Barnes said Hughes's death was an accident.

As per DailyMail UK, Cricket Australia is believed to have given an initial compensation payment to Hughes's family, amounting to the 25-year-old's potential future earnings.

The compensation would have been decided including provisions of Hughes' contract payment in the year of his death, the next year's contract and an averag of what he would have earned in the next 10 years.

Speaking about the reported fiures a spokesperson of Cricket Australia said, 'We do not comment on private financial matters, but it must be stated that the figure published by The West Australian is wrong. It is extremely disappointing that the paper would publish a speculative amount,' the spokesman stated.

Hughes succumbed to his injury two days after he was fatally struck in the neck by a ball bowled by Sean Abbott during a Sheffield Shield match at the SCG on November 25, 2014.
