David Warner reveals how he constructed 119-run knock against New Zealand

New Delhi: Australia's dashing opener David Warner smashed his 6th hundred against New Zealand in the second match of the 2016 Chappel-Hadlee series at Canberra on Wednesday, which Australia won by 112 runs.

Warner led from the front and played an outstanding innings, scoring 119 runs off 115 balls, with the help of 14 fours and one six that helped Australia post 378 runs on the board.

Warner, 30, who is in great touch this year also surpassed the record of former captain Ricky Ponting and Matthew Hayden for the most centuries in a year for an Australian.

“The last 18 to 24 months, I've really worked hard on being able to construct and build my innings and not play too many big shots early on,” he said after the match.

"If the ball is there, I'm still going to go after it (but) that's what I put it down to: actually trying to construct an innings and relay that Test match attitude into the one-dayers,” he added.

Australia had a really bad season this summer and were whitewashed by South Africa in their own backyard. And they were looking the salvage the pride in the Chappe-Hadlee series.

Warner also added that “We don't really want to lose too many series, at home especially, but the guys are just sort of worked a way out to come back out. A bit of form from people, the senior people have to keep stepping up. If we do that the other guys will follow us."

Thanks to yesterday's win, Steven Smith & Co have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The third and final match will be played on December 9, at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
