Viru's unique habit of doing a sing a song while batting had kept his fans and rivals bemused.

New Delhi: Former India opener Virender Sehwag once stopped a Test match to remember a song. Believed it or not, this is a fact, which remained a well kept secret until Wednesday.

Sehwag, 38. revealed this fun fact yesterday while launching the second season of the Goregaon Sports Club's premier league in Mumbai.

During the first Test of India-South Africa series in 2008 at Chennai, Sehwag called 12th man Ishant Sharma to get the lyrics from his song. His Delhi state-mate had not option but to comply with the demand coming from none other Viru, who had just hit a second triple-hundred.

"Once when I was batting in Chennai on 300, I forgot the lyrics of song. So I called Ishant Sharma, who was the 12th man for that game, to the field and told him to get the lyrics of the song from my iPod, and he did that," Sehwag revealed.

The flambouyant opener then added, that "Obviously, everyone thought that I had asked for 'drinks' from Ishant, but sometimes, the 12th man can be used in this way too! The song was ' Tu Jaane Na'.”

In reply to South Africa's first innings total of 540, India made an even imposing 627 with Viru contributing 319. The drawn match at the historic Chepauk witnessed as many as 1498 runs with the Proteas scoring another 331 runs in their second essay.

It was Sehwag's second triple hundred, after that epic one against Pakistan at Multan in 2004, which earned him the epithet 'Sultan of Multan'.

But this unique habit of doing a sing a song while batting had kept his fans and rivals bemused. And here's what he has to say about it.

"Before facing a ball, I used to keep thinking about whether to hit the ball for a four or a six. To avoid thinking too much, and maintain my concentration, I started singing," Viru finally revealed.
