New Delhi: Shreyas Iyer arrived in Dharamsala with the hopes of playing for India and doing well with his bat. After all, he was the cover for skipper Virat Kohli, who picked up a shoulder injury in Ranchi Test.
But, Iyer was denied his India debut even though Kohli failed to gain match-fitness. The Indian think-tank preferred bowling all-rounder Kuldeep Yadav. And it proved a masterstroke too.
Iyer, however, found a perfect way to get his name on the scoreboard of the match which was supposed to be his debut.

Coming as a substitute fielder, Iyer produced a rocket throw at the wicket-keeper's end to dismiss Steve O'Keefe. His throw from square leg beat the Aussie batsman even as Wriddhiman Saha used his wicket-keeping skills to uproot the wicket after the initial effort warranted a lengthy replays.
It happened off the third ball of the 80th over.
Yesterday, the Indian board named Iyer as the cover for Kohli.
