New Delhi: Indian Test batsman Karun Nair on Monday entered history books as he became the first Indian cricketer to convert his maiden Test ton into a triple century.
Resuming from his overnight score of 71, Nair went on to hit one of the finest knocks in the history of Test cricket.
The moment came in the 191st over, where batting on 299, he played a cut shot against Adil Rashid past covers to reach the feat with a boundary. Virat Kohli declared the innings the moment Nair crossed the 300-run mark. Nair remained unbeaten on 303 runs and his knock was studded with 32 boundaries and four sixes.
The capacity crowd at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk witnessed one of the best knocks in Test cricket by an Indian batsman.
With the brilliant knock, Nair became the only second Indian cricketer after Virender Sehwag to score a triple century in Test cricket. Sehwag has two centuries to his name.
