England took a healthy 154-run lead to put the visitors on the back foot on Day 3 of the fifth Test at Kennington Oval, London. Alastair survived a nervy Indian spell with a 125-ball 46 to put England in a comfortable position.

Here are the highlights from Day 3:

# Brief score:

England 2nd innings: 113/2, lead by 154 runs ( Alastair Cook 46)

India 1st innings: 292/10 ( Ravindra Jadeja 86, Hanuma Vihari 56)

England 1st innings: 332/10 (Jos Buttler 89, Alastair Cook 71 / Ishant Sharma 3/62, Jasprit  Bumrah 3/83)

Stumps

The lights are on and the ball is moving around. Jasprit Bumrah-Shami continue to bowl at the right areas but the English hang around. It has been an exhausting period for the visitors as England now have a healthy 140-run lead. England 100/2!

# Joe Root is in at number four.

# England 64/2, lead by 104 runs!

# Wicket!! Jadeja strikes!!  He pitches it outside the off and the ball jacks back in to knock Moeen Ali's stumps. A change of luck for India? Ali departs for 20 (52).

Alastair Cook and Moeen Ali are starting to frustrate India. The visitors, on the other hand, need a wicket here if they fancy a chance in this dead rubber.

# Shami continues to trouble the English batsmen but the edge remains elusive. Alastair Cook, in his final innings, is happy to bid his time and put away the loose deliveries. England 48/1, lead by 88 runs. Click here for the detailed scorecard.

# Moeen Ali is in at number three.

England 27/1

# Wicket!! Shami bowls a peach of a delivery, he brings the ball in to knock Jennings' off stump. What a delivery!! Keaton Jennings departs for 10, England lose their first wicket. Shami finally gets a wicket to his name.

# Indian skipper Virat Kohli cuts a frustrated figure as India lose both their reviews, in the span of 12 balls. Could this prove to be costly for India?

# Play resumes!!

# Tea

# England 20/0, lead by 60 runs!

Virat Kohli used four bowlers in the span of 9 overs but England openers hung around to add 20 runs, extending their lead to 60, at Tea. A wicket or two post the break could bring India back into the game. England, however, continue to hold the upper hand. Anything over 200 could prove to be a daunting chase for India considering their dismal record batting fourth so far.

England openers hung around and added 20 runs. India, on the other hand, bowled brilliantly.

# Cook gets a standing ovation as he takes guard for the last time!

# Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennings open the innings for England.

# Innings break!

# England lead by 40 runs

India 292/10 (Ravindra Jadeja 86, Hanuma Vihari 56)

# Wicket!! Jadeja attempts to steal a single but Broad was quick enough to run Bumrah out. That's it India are all out for 292 and hand England a 40-run 1st innings lead.

Moeen Ali bowled a brilliant maiden over to deny Jadeja a-change of strike but Bumrah survives Stuart Broad's probing over.

# India 292/9, trail by 40 runs.

# Jadeja continues to keep Jasprit Bumrah at the non-striker with a single in the last ball. He, batting at 85, inches closer to his highest-score Test score of 90. Jadeja has stitched a 30-run partnership with Bumrah.

# India 282/9 after 90 overs.

Ravindra Jadeja is doing what Jos Buttler did with the English tail. The deficit is under 60 now and India would be happy with the scoreline after reeling 160/6 at one stage.

# Wicket!! Adil Rashid flights the ball, tempting Mohammed to slog but the latter hands a catch to Stuart Broad at the long-on boundary. India 260/9, trail by 72 runs.

# Half-century!! Ravindra Jadeja, on a comeback, brings up his 9th Test half-century!

# India 249/8, trail by 83 runs.

# Wicket!! Moeen Ali strikes again. Ali tosses it up and forces Sharma to lunge forward in defence but the latter ends up edging the ball to Bairstow. Sharma departs for 4.

# Play resumes!

Hanuma Vihari and Ravindra Jadeja toiled hard as India added 66 runs to their overnight score. India, who trail by 92 runs, looked like topping the session but Moeen Ali dismissed Vihari (56) on the brink of lunch to put England in the driver's seat. It is all up to Jadeja, batting at 41, to reduce the deficit for India.

# Lunch!

# India 240/7, trail by 92 runs!

# Ishant Sharma is in at number nine.

# Wicket!! Vihari's gritty innings comes to an end. Moeen Ali skids a straighter one outside the off-stump, drawing Vihari forward to edge a catch to Jonny Bairstow. Vihari departs for 56 (124).

# Vihari is off to a great start but he still has a long way to go. Despite struggling at the start of innings, Vihari patiently hung around and crawled to his first 50 in 104 balls. Jadeja, on the other hand, has been calm and composed. Skipper Joe Root senses the danger and wasted no time in bringing the off-spinner Moeen Ali into the attack. India 224/6, trail by 108 runs.

# Half-century! Hanuma Vihari brings up his first Test half-century on his debut.

Anderson and Broad are moving the ball well but Vihari and Jadeja are happy to defend and leave anything outside the off stump. It is a sticky situation for India and skipper Joe Root would look to make the most of it. Vihari-Jadeja are the last recognised batsmen and a wicket at this stage could put England in the driver's seat with a remarkable first innings lead. Testing times for the Indian lower-order, can they match the English tail? only time will tell. India 196/6, trail by 136 runs.

Hanuma Vihari and Ravindra Jadeja have a daunting task ahead as England start with two of their best in the lot, James Anderson and Stuart Broad. It is still a flat and good wicket to bat on but there are rough patches around the good length area that could assist off-spinner Moeen Ali against right-handers. India 178/6, trail by 154 runs.

Brief score:

India trail by 158 runs

India 1st innings 174/6 (51 overs) (Virat Kohli 49 / KL Rahul 37)

England 1st innings 332/10 (122 overs) (Jos Buttler 89, Alastair Cook 71)

Cheteshwar Pujara (37) and KL Rahul (37) got India off to a decent start with a 64-run partnership. While Sam Curran got the better of KL Rahul with a ripper, James Anderson scalped Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane (0) in quick session to put India on the back foot at 103/4.

Virat Kohli then built a 51-run partnership with debutant Hanuma Vihari. Just when India looked like settling in, Stokes dismissed skipper Kohli for a 70-ball 49.

Earlier, Indian bowlers went past the English bats umpteen times but the lower-order annoyed India and added 134 runs to their overnight score. Jos Buttler's 133-ball 89 steered England to a competitive score of 332/10. In response
