New Delhi: Having already associated itself with some of the biggest events in the world of sports including the ICC Cricket World Cup, Formula 1, the London 2012 Olympic Games and the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Indian dairy giant Amul hasn't missed out on getting its name on the ICC Champions Trophy sponsors' board, by becoming the sponsor of the New Zealand cricket team for the mega event.
Amul, one of Asia's largest milk brands, will be prime sponsor of the Kiwis in the upcoming tournament which begins June 1 in England.
The brand Amul, which boasts of an annual sales turnover of Rs 27,000 crore (US $ 4.2 billion), will bee seen on Blackcaps playing jerseys as well as on the training kits for as long as the team manages to stay in the tournament.
"We are excited about being associated with New Zealand cricket for the first time and Amul welcomes the Blackcaps to the family," said R S Sodhi, managing director of the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (the apex body of all district dairy unions of Gujarat that markets brand Amul).
"Coming from a strong farming and cooperative dairy culture, the New Zealand association is a perfect fit, reflecting our quality and values," he added.
Reflecting on the association, James Wear, commercial director for New Zealand Cricket said, "We are delighted to have Amul on board and hopefully this is the beginning of a long-term relationship."
New Zealand, with an Indian brand on their shirt, will play will be up against Virat Kohli and Co. in the warm up match on May 28 followed by Sri Lanka on May 30, before getting their Champions Trophy schedule underway versus Australia on June 2.
