De Kock, who is one of the hottest properties in international cricket, was ruled out of IPL 2017 with an injury to his right index finger he picked up during the New Zealand tour last month.

"Delhi Daredevils have signed West Indies all-rounder, Marlon Samuels as a replacement for the injured Quinton de Kock for the remainder of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017," the IPL said in a statement.

Samuels, who has played 71 Tests, 187 One-Day Internationals and 55 T20Is, is regarded as one of the finest hitters in the shortest format of the game.

The swashbuckling right-hander was among several top players who went unsold in the IPL auction this year, with a base price of INR 100 lakhs.

He last played in the IPL over four years ago, in 2013 for Pune Warriors, the only franchise he has represented so far.

In 2012, he played eight matches for them to score a total of 124 runs and take eight wickets. In 2013, he featured in only two matches, with scores of 5 and 3, and only one wicket to his name.

Samuels' inclusion could solve DD's top-order woes as their batsmen have failed to perform on a consistent basis.

The Daredevils are currently ranked seventh in the points table with just two wins from six matches.
