New Delhi: India's former swashbuckling opener Virender Sehwag paid tribute to former Indian president Abdul Kalam on his birth anniversary on Saturday.

The 37-year-old recieved India's highest sporting honour, Arjuna Award, from Abdul Kalam in 2002. Sehwag was the only cricketer nominated that year by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).


On October 15th, 2016 - the birth anniversary Mr. Kalam, Viru took to social micro-blogging site Twitter to express his gratitude towards Kalam.

Viru tweeted, "Tributes to Bharat Ratna #APJAbdulKalam on his birth anniversary. Tday fr a moment,let's gaze at his photo&give him a Salute. #KalamKoSalaam."

APJ Abdul Kalam was the 11th president of India from 2002 to2007. He was also known as the Missile Man of India.


Viru retired from all forms of International cricket on October 20, 2015.
