New Delhi: Former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner Lalit Modi's son Ruchir looks all set to replace his father as the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) supremo.
In a surprise move, 22-year-old Ruchir was appointed as the president of the Alwar District Cricket Association (ADCA) in a hush-hush affair on August 22.
Pawan Goyal, secretary, ADCA told The Times of India that Ruchir's election was conducted as per the regulations of Rajasthan Sports Act and an observer of sports council was present.
While Ruchir is now likely to contest for the president's post, it isn't going to be easy since other members of the cricket body have cried foul saying the election was not conducted in a legal manner.
"Till the Registrar of Co-Operatives does not nominate an ad-hoc committee, they cannot hold an election. If they have done it by themselves, they should better have some answers ready," Pawan Sharma, deputy secretary and life member, ADCA was quoted as saying by NDTV.
Notably, the Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) has suspended RCA and has said that the decision will be revoked only when Modi steps down, or is removed from the post.
Modi has been facing financial regularities in the IPL, which led him to flee the country.
In May 2010, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had also registered a money-laundering case against him.
