Miraculous escape for Shakib Al Hasan: Helicopter crashes after dropping off Bangladesh all-rounder

New Delhi: Shakib Al Hasan had a miraculous escape on Friday after the helicopter that just dropped off Bangladesh allrounder and his wife in Cox's Bazar crashed during its return journey to Dhaka.

According to reports, the helicopter dropped Shakib and Umme Ahmed Shishir at around 9.30am at the Royal Tulip Sea Resort, some 27km south of Cox's Bazar town.

A person was killed, and four persons were injured in the accident.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the deceased was identified as Shah Alam, a resident of Dhaka, and the injured were undergoing treatment at the local health complex. Wing Commander (retd) Shafiqul Islam, the pilot, was among the injured.

After an hour later, the helicopter crashed near Inani beach on it's return flight, some 1.5km north of where Shakib and Shishir had landed.

The couple were reportedly going to shoot a commercial.

"I am fine, but feel rather shocked at the news of the chopper crash. But I can't really tell you anything about the crash. I was at shooting at the time," Shakib was quoted as saying in newspaper reports.

Shakib, a gifted all-rounder, is one of the most celebrated cricketers in Bangladesh. The 29-year-old is currently second in the ICC Test All-Rounder ranking, behind India's Ravichandran Ashwin.

For the record, in 2015 he became the first ever cricketer to have ranked number one in all three formats of the game.

After making his Test debut in May 2007 against Pakistan, Shakib has played 42 Tests so far scoring 2823 with three hundreds, besides taking 147 wickets.

In 157 ODIs, he has scored 4398 runs with six hundreds. He has taken 206 wickets too.

The celebrated all-rounder, who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, also made his presence felt in Twenty20 Internationals.

In 54 T20I matches, Shakib has scored 1103 runs and taken 65 wickets.
