New Delhi: Bangladesh's spin sensation Mehdi Hasan Miraz stunned the cricketing world by taking 6 wickets in 1st innings on his Test debut against England.
The 18-year-old offie also took a wicket in 2nd innings to cap of his quota on debut test with seven wickets to his name.
Speaking to The Daily Observer, Mehdi revealed that he learnt the art of spin bowling watching former Indian spinner Ramesh Powar on TV.
"Though I have never met him, Ramesh Power is my hero. I used to watch him play IPL matches on TV and took inspiration from him".
"It was because the captain (Mushfiqur Rahim) had faith in me. I was also encouraged by the senior members of the team and special thanks to Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan for their kind words".
"No, unfortunately my parents have not watched my heroic debut. My father was a truck driver till last year and he with my mother stay at home Khulna, which is over 350 km from here (Chittagong)", he further added.
Hasan, bowled record breaking 33 overs on his debut against England.
On hearing of such appraise from Hasan, Powar reportedly watched the highlights of the on going Bangladesh-England match and said,
"I have just watched him (Mehedi Hasan) getting out in the slip. He looks a classical off-spinner".
"I feel very nice to say getting inspiration from my bowling".
"I heard he was also a captain of the Under-19 team".
"I have never met him but the world is now a small place and wish to meet him on any day", the 38-year-old Powar said.
"I will tell him to involve with modern cricket and learn new tricks with ball", he concluded.
Powar played 2 Tests and 31 ODIs for India, but failed to develop a mainstream role in the Indian lien-up.
