New Delhi: It is often said that “it's all about perception of how we see things”, India's invincible streak at home is one of those examples justifying the statement. While, most of the people are seeing this performance as the efforts of top players in the team like Virat Kohli, Ravichandren Ashwin or Ravinder Jadeja, what they fail to notice is the mature attitude, temperament of this young team.
Players like Karun Nair, KL Rahul, Jayant Yadav are not experienced names in the Test format but the temperament they showed on field was beyond imagination. Nair, who scored his maiden triple century in the fourth Test against England showed how much potential he has got. Rahul scored 199 runs in the Chennai Test and missed out on his maiden double hundred by just 1 run, while Jayant showed his all-round abilities by delivering from both bat and ball.
What is to be contemplated is the factor behind these players' mature mind set in such a small time and the name behind this transformation of attitude. The answer would be no one else other than the 'Wall of Indian Team' or 'Mr. Dependable' Rahul Dravid.
Dravid is presently the coach of India A team and he is helping these young-guns to switch from 'promising' to 'world class'. Nair and Yadav, both key performers in this series, were part of the A team that toured Australia and got to learn from one of Indian cricket's most reliable names.
Dravid, 43, took charge of the India A team in the month of May and then scheduled a series of tours with the purpose of developing a good bench strength, and since July last year, his team has hosted South Africa, Australia and Bangladesh (2015) and toured Australia in August (2016). India A teams never had the privilege of being so committed before.
The trio of Yadav, Nair, and Parthiv, were also a part of these tours before making their their successful comeback in international Cricket.
Those who understands the 'abc' of cricket know what it takes to deliver such results and former Indian batsman and commentator Ravi Shastri is one of those who not only acknowledged Dravid's effort but came forward to share it. He said that praise was due for both Dravid and the Board for the way the likes of Yadav and Nair have arrived on the international scene.
Acting like an goldsmith, Dravid knows how to find and polish a stone and turn it into a precious gemstone, with that much experience in ODI's and Test he knows what are the right ingredients required to turn a good player into a great player.
