South Africa will go up against Bangladesh in match no. 23 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday. The Proteas have bounced back sensationally after their shock defeat to the Netherlands, hammering defending champions England by 229 runs at the same venue last week.
SA missed the services of regular skipper Temba Bavuma due to illness and was replaced by Reeza Hendricks, who scored an impressive 85 against England in the last match. If Bavuma fails to recover from illness, Hendricks will continue to open the batting with Markram leading the side.
Batter Heinrich Klaasen, who scored a century in the last match, was struggling with the brutally humid conditions in Mumbai in the last match but Markram believes he will be fit enough to play against Bangladesh on Tuesday.
“Yeah, he’s good. He certainly was manned down. Like I mentioned, the conditions were pretty brutal. He did a lot of hard work for us out there and I think it took quite a lot out of him. He pulled up nicely after the game. The body was really sore and he was quite fatigued. But he’s been trying to get treatment and rest yesterday and very much so the same today in order to get himself good. But as far as I’m aware, you will do well to keep him off the cricket field. He's quite a tough guy and he'll be itching to go again tomorrow, I’m sure,” Markram said about Klaasen.
Bangladesh, meanwhile, will be boosted by the return of their skipper Shakib al Hasan, who missed their last match against India in Pune last week due to left quadriceps injury.
