New Delhi: Indian cricket fans are waiting with bated breath for the release of Sachin Tendulkar's upcoming biopic 'Sachin: A Billion Dreams'. Tendulkar, who recently launched the movie's anthem, will be seen playing his role on the big screen.
As per the trend, while directors rope in Bollywood actors to play the role of sportspersons, Tendulkar's biopic will be rare since the Mumbai batsman will himself be seen portraying his role.
When asked which Bollywood actor would have done justice to the role, Tendulkar told Mid Day, "Well, whenever I have asked journalists this, they have all named Aamir because there is direct connect. Aamir has done 'Lagaan' (2001 film on a do-or-die cricket match). He's a great actor and a wonderful person."
The only batsman to have 100 international centuries to his name, Tendulkar also revealed that the directors took a lot of time to convince him in order to act in the biopic.
"My initial reaction was no (smiles). I said I can't act, I don't want to act; I am a sportsperson, not an actor. So, it took them a while to convince me and to let me know I have to act. Because everything in my life has been documented, there are no made-up stories… there is no way to rewrite a script to show I have made extra runs. They (makers) felt no one knows what went on in my mind during the highs and lows [of my career]. So, we needed to show that to as many guys as possible," he added.
Earlier at an event, Tendulkar, along with legendary music composer AR Rahman, launched a song from his movie which is titled ‘Hind Mere Jind’
Rahman said that composing the music for the song was a challenging task for him.
“I hope that this musical ode to fans of Sachin matches up to Sachin’s magical performances on the field. Creating the soundtrack for the film has been a memorable experience,” he said.
"Sachin: A Billion Dreams" will see the cricketer in the lead role. The film is directed by James Erskine and produced by Ravi Bhagchandka with a touch of Oscar winning music composer A.R. Rahman.
The movie will hit the theatres on May 26, 2017.
