Sachin Tendulkar reveals his mother is the person who started popular 'Sachin Sachin' chant

Tendulkar, who represented India in 200 Tests and 463 ODIs, said that it was his mother who started the 'Sachin Sachin' chant in order to call him while he was away playing.

New Delhi: Even after years of his retirement, wherever Sachin Tendulkar goes, there is hardly an occasion where fans do not welcome him with the 'Sachin Sachin' chant. The Master Blaster, who is the only batsman to have 100 international centuries under his belt, has revealed the person behind the legendary chant.

Speaking on the occasion of the launch of a song from his upcoming movie "Sachin: A Billion Dreams", Tendulkar said that it was his mother who started it.

"My mother started it actually. I used to go play downstairs and to call me back home, mother would call 'Sachin Sachin'," Tendulkar said when asked about the origin of the chant.

"I never thought 'Sachin Sachin' (chant) would continue beyond my playing days. It has now gone to the theatres. So I feel happy," the master blaster said.

There is an iconic picture of a young Tendulkar holding a bat.

When asked about the story behind the viral photo, Tendulkar said, "This was actually taken at home when I was playing with my brother. This was in the balcony. I was only four or five then. My positions weren't perfect. What I enjoyed was, hitting the ball. Be it a cricket bat or a tennis racket. My brother would chuck tennis ball, few I used to hit from cricket bat, few from rackets."

Tendulkar, who represented India in 200 Tests and 463 ODIs, will be seen in his upcoming biopic.

"Sachin: A Billion Dreams" will see the cricketer in the lead role. The film is directed by James Erskine and produced by Ravi Bhagchandka with a touch of Oscar winning music composer A.R. Rahman.

The movie will hit the theatres on May 26, 2017.
