Combined it with some lethargic running between the wickets, you get the perfect recipe of disaster. Yesterday, cricket world was treated to such a bizarre run out, courtesy Sri Lankan batsman Dinesh Chandimal.

In happened during the Sri Lankan innings of their third ODI match against visiting Bangladesh at Sinhalese Sports Club Ground, Colombo.

Chandimal returned for a second run after playing a Shakib Al Hasan delivery in the 26th over towards deep. From there Taskin Ahmed produced an excellent throw for Mushfiqur Rahim to effect the run-out, which was made possible by Chandimal's lethargy, or brain fade.

Chandimal could have easily, so easily, made the ground, but despite his body inside the crease, both his feet and bat were in the air, even as Bangladesh wicket-keeper completed dislodging the bails.

Despite it, Sri Lanka managed to post 280 runs thanks to steady contribution from everyone. And it was more than enough for the hosts to defend, winning the match by 70 runs. The three-match ODI series ended with 1-1 after the second match was declared 'no result' due to rain. The visitors won the first match.

And luckily for everyone, the run-out rule will be updated later this year. Once it happened, a batsman who has grounded his bat behind the crease before the bails are broken, will not be given out even if the bat is later raised. Yes, if the batsman attempts another run, then it's another story.
