Steve Smith confirms he will not appeal Cricket Australia's ban

Smith, who can also not lead the side for another 12 months after his ban elapses, took to scial media to announce his sdecision to not contest the ban.

New Delhi: Former Australia skipper Steve Smith, who is banned for a year for his involvement in the recent ball-tampering incident in South farica, has confirmed that he will not appeal the sanctions imposed on him by Cricket Australia. 

Smith, who can also not lead the side for another 12 months after his ban elapses, took to scial media to announce his decision to not contest the ban. 

"I would give anything to have this behind me and be back representing my country. But I meant what I said about taking full responsibility as Captain of the team. I won’t be challenging the sanctions. They’ve been imposed by CA to send a strong message and I have accepted them."

 

Meanwhile, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft are yet to announce their decisions whether or not they will be contesting the respective sanctions. 

The Australia trio were caught tampering with the ball during the third Test in Cape Town. Cameron Bancroft was found with a piece of sandpaper in his possession and was caught while hiding in under his pants. Later, when questioned, Steve Smith and Co owned up and accepted to have committed the offence. Australia's cricket body decided to ban the three of them for an year.
