Virat Kohli can emulate Sourav Ganguly's oversees success, claims Virender Sehwag

New Delhi: One of the finest openers in history of cricket and an ex-captain himself, Virender Sehwag believes that Test skipper Virat Kohli can emulate Sourav Ganguly's oversees success.

India have been unbeatable at home – earlier claiming a 3-0 triumph over New Zealand and now leading England 2-0 after three Tests in the 5-match series.

"I believe this team under Virat has the quality and capability of winning Test matches outside the sub-continent. They can definitely emulate the performances of the team that played under Sourav Ganguly and won Test matches in England and Australia," Sehwag was quoted saying by PTI.

Viru also praised the quality of fast bowlers current Indian side possess, seeing someone like Ishant Sharma being benched in favour of Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami.

"The potential of the batting unit with Virat as the leader, we have all seen. You need a good bowling attack to take wickets. We have a brilliant bowler like Mohammed Shami. We have Umesh Yadav and someone like Ishant Sharma, who can also win India matches."

"There is no reason why they can't replicate their performances at home in overseas conditions," added Sehwag.

The prolific opener was made the brand ambassador of world's biggest ever tennis ball cricket tournament 10PL carrying a total prize money of 250,000 Dirham.

Sehwag expressed his views on the young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant, who already has scored 900-plus runs in Ranji Trophy and seeks inspiration from the 'Nawab of Najafgarh'.

"Rishabh's future is very bright. He will certainly play for India. In my career, I have not seen cases where people have performed consistently and yet did not get a chance at the highest level," said the man, who has become a social media and commentary sensation since retiring from cricket.
