New Delhi: India’s women’s Twenty20 captain Harmanpreet Kaur made an impressive Big Bash League debut on Saturday even as her team Sydney Thunder lost to Melbourne Stars by six runs at North Sydney Oval.
Harmanpreet, 27, hit 47 off just 28 balls with the help of two fours and three sixes. But Thunder were restricted to 141 for 4 in reply to Melbourne’s 147 for 8.
Needing 37 runs from the last two overs, Thunder fell short by six runs despite Kaur hitting two sixes in a late rush.
Harmanpreet became the first Indian to play in a BBL men’s or women’s team, and one of two to join the WBBL this season with Brisbane Heats’ Smriti Mandhana.
