New Delhi: Yuvraj Singh's wife Hazel Keech will now be known as Gurbasant Kaur. The veteran Indian cricketer got married to the British−Mauritian model on Wednesday at the Dera of Baba Ram Singh, which is around 40 kms from Chandigarh.
According to reports, during the wedding ritual Hazel was referred to as Gurbasant Kaur by the Saint Balvinder Singh, who was reading the kirtan. After the 'Anand Karaj' ceremony, the couple got the blessings of Dera head Baba Ram Singh Ji.
Reports further claimed that Sant Baba Ram Singh Ji himself had suggested to change the name of Hazel to Gurbasant.
Interestingly, Yuvraj’s father Yograj Singh did not attend the wedding ceremony because he didn't approve of religious guru.
“It is my misfortune that I will not be attending the traditional wedding of my son ... I had told Yuvraj’s mother that I will not attend the wedding if it is solemnised at any guru or dera sect or involves any religious guru. It’s destiny, I will not go. I only believe in God and not religious gurus,” he was quoted as saying earlier in a HT report.
After marriage name change is a cultural thing in India. And one would say, “What's in a name?”
The wedding at the Dera was performed as per Sikh rituals, with only couple’s close friends and family in attendance. It's also reported that tight security arrangements were made near the Dera.
