Court pulls up Delhi Police over Ramjas incident

A court on Wednesday pulled up the Delhi Police for seeking more time to file a report on action taken against those who allegedly raised anti-national slogans at the Delhi University`s Ramjas College.

New Delhi: A court on Wednesday pulled up the Delhi Police for seeking more time to file a report on action taken against those who allegedly raised anti-national slogans at the Delhi University`s Ramjas College.

The court observed that the police have not filed action taken report in the matter despite several opportunities given to them.

Metropolitan Magistrate Abhilash Malhotra directed senior police officials to expedite inquiry into the matter and file a status report by August 3, the next date for the hearing.

Earlier, the Delhi Police filed a status report which was absolutely silent on the slogan-raising aspect of the incident on February 21.

The court was hearing a criminal complaint of Advocate Vivek Garg, who alleged that "massive anti-national slogans and activities were raised by leaders and students of the All India Students Association (AISA) and the Students` Federation of India (SFI) in Ramjas College, shamelessly and openly supporting India`s enemy -- Pakistan".

"The criminal acts of the accused were also boosting the morale of terrorists against our country," the complainant said.

On February 21, members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student's wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and activists of the Left-leaning AISA clashed on the Ramjas College campus.
