Delhi University takes new initiatives to prevent ragging, ensure women safety - Check how to file complaint

The Delhi university has released a notice mentioning a slew of measures to ensure a secured ragging-free campus from its 2017-18 academic session commencing from July 20.

New Delhi: The Delhi university on Monday issued a notice mentioning a slew of measures to ensure a secured ragging-free campus for its 2017-18 academic session commencing from July 20.

In a meeting held recently, the university authority in collaboration with DTC, Delhi Metro and the Delhi police, discussed and formulated the preventive measures.

"The Delhi Metro has been requested to make announcements in trains and stations about the varsity being intolerant towards ragging," read the Delhi University release.

The university has also announced that no outsiders will be allowed inside the university campus. Defacing of walls using paint, poster or any other method is not allowed and the university has prohibited the display of sensitive posters and graffiti within campus, reported the Indian Express.

The traffic at sensitive locations near the campus will be regulated by the Delhi Police and the students have been advised to use public transport in order to prevent congestion.

Anti-ragging

The sensitive areas within the university premises have been put under electronic surveillance. The university has planned to establish control rooms in North and South campus from July 20 to August 2 in order to maintain discipline during the induction process of the freshers. Anti-ragging and disciplinary committees will be formed in all colleges to prevent ragging. Also, they will display rules regarding the prohibition of ragging on campus.

Women security

The Delhi police is likely to deploy women police personnel in civil clothes to oversee indisciplinary incidents. All colleges under DU will get police picket points with a special assistance to women colleges. Specially trained women police personnel in martial arts will also be posted. The university has asked the students to check whether their PG accommodations are verified by the respective local police.

- Drop a written complaint in your college complaint box.

- Call the National Anti-Ragging helpline number 1800 180 5522.

- Call the Joint Control Rooms (North Campus- 27667221; South Campus- 24119832).

- Call 100 or inform your nearest PCR van.
