FIRs against AAP, Delhi minister for using religion to seek votes

Two FIRs have been filed against the AAP and Delhi Minister Imran Hussain.

New Delhi: Two FIRs have been filed against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Delhi Minister Imran Hussain for allegedly asking for votes in the name of religion here, police said on Wednesday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Rishi Pal said that the FIRs were filed on Tuesday evening based on complaints by the Returning Officer for Bawana in north-west Delhi, which went to the polls on Wednesday.

"The FIRs were filed based on written complaints and directions from the Returning Officer," Pal said.

The purported posters, which led to the FIRs being registered, read: "We appeal to all Muslim brothers in Bawana...to vote for Aam Aadmi Party this time."

It also had photos of Hussain, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and a broom, which is the AAP's election symbol.
