New Delhi: A 34-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his wife in front of her three-year-old daughter outside the Thyagraj Stadium as he suspected her of infidelity, the police said on Tuesday.
Yesterday, the police were informed that body of a woman was lying in front of one of the gates of the stadium, they said.
The woman, identified as Santoshi (40), was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre where she was declared as brought dead, police said, adding that a blood-stained knife was recovered from the spot.
On the basis of the CCTV footage obtained from the stadium and talking to locals, the police made a sketch of the accused.
When it was shown to the woman's children it was found that it was her husband Vinod who had killed her, a senior police officer said.
He said when the police reached Vinod's house in Prem Gali in Kotla Mubarakapur, he was found absconding.
Raids were conducted at his possible hideouts but he could not be traced. He was nabbed today from outer Delhi's Mundka on the basis of a tip-off, the officer said.
Santoshi was earlier married to one Rambabu, who died around seven-eight years ago due to illness. Since then, she had been living with her six children. Last year, she met Vinod and they got married, he said.
Vinod was enraged after he saw his wife in a "compromising position" with another man yesterday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ishwar Singh said.
He hatched a conspiracy to eliminate her. He took her to the INA Market, purchased a knife from a cutlery shop and they consumed liquor together.
He then took her to gate number one of the stadium and stabbed her several times, the DCP said, adding that after he was sure that she had died, he threw the knife away and fled the spot.
Santoshi's three-year-old daughter was also present on the spot but he did not harm her, the police said.
