MCD polls: BJP expels Narela candidate Savita Khatri after sacked AAP minister 'campaigned' for her

New Delhi: The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday expelled Narela candidate Savita Khatri just a few days ahead of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Elections.

The BJP's action came two days after sacked Aam Aadmi Party minister Sandeep Kumar allegedly 'campaigned' for Khatri.

Sandeep Kumar, a former minister in the AAP government in Delhi, was sacked from the party last year over a sex tape purportedly featuring him.

Addressing a press conference here, BJP's national vice- president Vinay Sahasrabuddhe said the party has taken a firm stand.

"Those who do not respect women and people who seek the support of such person (Sandeep Kumar) have no place in our party."

"Such persons never had a place and they will never have it (in the BJP)," Sahasrabuddhe told reporters here.

The BJP had yesterday denied that Kumar has campaigned for one of its candidates.

A video clip had recently surfaced purportedly showing Kumar slamming Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and extending his support to the BJP candidate from Narela, Savita Khatri.

On Sunday, the Sultanpur Majra MLA was allegedly present in person at Khatri's rally.

"It's a well-planned conspiracy of AAP to harm the BJP's poll prospects at Narela," Delhi BJP vice-president Rajiv Babbar had said, adding that Kumar was not invited to the rally and he went away after talking to the media.

"AAP volunteers are running a social media campaign to defame our party," Delhi BJP spokesperson Naveen Kumar added.

"We have lodged a police complaint in this regard," he added.

Kumar was removed from the Delhi cabinet by Kejriwal in August 2016.

Subsequently, he was arrested on a complaint from a woman after a video clip surfaced purportedly showing her in a compromising position with Kumar.
