“Both of us failed in our responsibilities. Party should have an opportunity to put things in order,” Chacko said.

The senior leader from Kerala said that the party leadership had never interfered in the working of the Delhi Congress and still the party failed in MCD polls.

I have sent my resignation to Congress president and Congress vice president,” he said.

On the criticism that the style of functioning of Ajay Maken had led to the loss and was also the reason behind senior party leaders like Arvinder Singh Lovely abandoning the Congress, Chacko said, “Ajay Maken's style (of functioning) was not the sole reason for the failure, according to me.”

He also appealed to the party leadership to give an opportunity to other party leaders. “Maybe there are other leaders who can do better.”

Earlier, Ajay Maken took moral responsibility for the party`s defeat in the civic polls and announced he was resigning.

He also said that he won`t hold any party`s post for the next one year and will remain just a normal Congress member.

The Congress was a distant third in the Delhi civic polls, after the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Aam Aadmi Party.
