NEW DELHI: As many as 30 restaurants and several other shops in Khan Market are likely to be shut down by the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) on Monday.

The shops will be sealed due to alleged violations of provisions of the 2021 Master Plan.

"We are going from place to place and looking at it. There is no list," Rajeev Sood, NDMC Chief Architect told ANI.

According to the masterplan, the traders who are running commercial business above ground floor in local shopping complexes, are liable to pay the local body Rs 22,274 per square metre as use conversion charges.

The charge which was earlier Rs 89,000 has now been cut down to Rs 22,274 by DDA.

Khan Market has been under the scanner for allegedly not following fire safety rules as a majority of the restaurants do not have clearance from the fire department, said a report.

The development comes in the aftermath of the Kamala Mills fire in Mumbai that claimed lives of 14 people on December 29.
