New Delhi: Allaying concerns over US restricting number of visas from India, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Monday said that Prime Minister Narendra Moidi will discuss the issue with President Donald Trump soon.
PM Modi is expected to meet President Trump during the G20 Summit in Hamburg in Germany early next month.
Swaraj said that the issuse of HIB visas will be taken up by PM Modii with President Trump when they would meet next month.
The issue of HIB visa has been a major concern in India, particularly among the students and the job seekers hoping to apply in the US.
Swaraj assured that there was no change in the status of HIB visas vis-avis India, since the the 2004 cap of 65,000 HIB visas still exists.
She also said that her ministry has simplified the rules for applying new passports and as a result there has been a substantiual increase in the number of applicants over the paste two years.
“The ministry has also increased the number of passport centres in the country. Today, all the states in the northeast has a passport cantre,” the minister said at a press conference here.
